From TV star to hotel

AN EVIDENCE OF sympathy

HOTELS ARE LIKE THEIR GUESTS, THEY ARE CONSTANTLY CHANGING.

Today's Hotel Egerkingen was opened in 1974 as "Motel Agip". From 1980 it operated as the "Motel SSG" of the Swiss dining car company - from 2001 Autogrill Schweiz AG.

It has belonged to “Hotel Egerkingen AG” since October 2019.

Over 45 eventful years, especially since the house became a star in 1983 with the soap “Motel” on Swiss television in the German-speaking Confederation.

The house underwent a major transformation between December 2007 and May 2008. The rooms, all conference and seminar rooms as well as the outdoor area including the garden terrace have been renovated.

At the beginning of 2020, it was rebuilt and modernized again. The restaurant, the hotel lobby and all seminar rooms shine in new splendor and invite you to linger.

See for yourself!

THE HOTEL EGERKINGEN

Our hotel is located at the A1/A2 motorway junction at the most central traffic junction in Switzerland. Located directly at the motorway exit, we are an ideal meeting point for those who have traveled a long way as well as for regional guests. Large cities such as Zurich, Bern, Basel and Lausanne can be reached in less than 50 minutes. In our restaurant - and in summer on our garden terrace - we will be happy to spoil you with popular dishes from the Mediterranean or with regional specialties. Modern seminar rooms are available for companies.

THE TV SERIE

Do you remember the TV series "Motel" on Swiss television? In 1984, 40 episodes went over the screen. The series about everyday work and life in a motel was filmed week after week at the original location, our motel in Egerkingen, and broadcast on Sunday evenings. Jörg Schneider and Silvia Jost played the leading roles. Dani Levy, who later became a film director, starred as the kitchen boy who smokes pepperoni. “Motel” was supposed to hold up a current mirror to the Swiss, depicting everyday life and bringing social taboos onto the floor. This led to much discussion. Despite good ratings, the series was discontinued after a year.
